A message from the artist:
For a while now I have been asked if I teach Photography Workshops. I have decided that it is time to do so. What I will share with you is my way of seeing to help you create in your own special way. This workshop will focus on the Art of seeing.
These will be 2-3 day workshops. We will cover a broad spectrum of subject matter and locations, and to say exactly what we will do, defies the whole essense of Photography as we are driven and guided by "The Light". That being said it is not about just Landscapes and Lake Superior that we love so well but also about exploring the brilliance of fall, the magic of coming Winter and even the gritty working side of urban Grand Marais and Cook County! You will be able to pursue individual work as well as group work. We will touch on portraiture in our environment if that is of interest as well as landscape work. We will have a group conversation prior to the time of the workshop to discuss the areas that we want to cover as a group and come to a consensus. I will compile ideas as people sign up for the workshop and we will form a group so that we can discuss objectives.
We will be based out of Downtown Grand Marais in my galleries and workshop. I will have several workstations that al have Photoshop CS5 available for your use, with two large color calibrated editing screens for final edit work.
If we decide that weather will not permit sustained outside work I have a professional studio lighting setup that can be utilized. I can also offer onsite in studio lodging in Artists Loft for a reduced price (www.grandmaraisrentals.com) on a first come first serve basis. It is a two bedroom rental with a sleeper sofa. Grand Marais offers many other affordable lodging options for your comfort as well as many great restaraunts and cafes!
What will you need? The basic necessities are a medium to advanced grade DSLR camera, a laptop computer, and a tripod. Most important of all is a willingness to learn, and to forget the many pre-conceived rules and notions about Photography.
The workshop will culminate in a final exhibition where we will print one of your finished works and hang them in a final showing on our last day in my photography gallery!
* For years now I have been traveling to the Beaches and Mountains of Oaxaca and become very familiar with its visual and historic treasures from the ancient pyramids and missions and churches as well as with the beautiful Colonial Mountain Capital of Oaxaca City. I have visited many of the amazing known and unknown sites of the region and city and have made arrangments with Models to work with us this winter through out the region!
